Lancashire Wedding Photographer: Selina & John's wedding at The Inn at Whitewell
I drew this years wedding season to a close documenting Selina & John's wedding up in Lancashire. I joined John for his preparations at his parents home in Manchester before travelling up to The Inn at Whitewell where the reception was to be held after the ceremony in the nearby church. The highlight, for me, had to be Selina's dads speech which was probably one of the most animated of the year. Smashing day, congratulations Selina & John!

Shropshire Wedding Photography: Rhiannon & Toby's wedding
I recently found myself back in the beautiful Shropshire countryside to photograph Rhiannon & Toby's wedding. I started the day with Rhiannon as she prepared at New Barns Farm with her bridesmaids before popping along to the pub to join Toby while he enjoyed a quick pint with his ushers. Rhiannon & Toby's church ceremony held an added degree of importance as it was led by Toby's mum in the beautiful 12th century St Peter's, Worfield. I'd like to thank her for being so accommodating and allowing me to document such a special ceremony. The family contributions continued after the ceremony with a formidable array of cakes made for a tea party in the vicarage garden. Rhiannon & Toby had got in touch with me after seeing me at work at Esther & Jonny's wedding earlier this year and it was great to be able to catch up during the tea party. The evening reception was held at the Hundred House Hotel, concluding with a farewell to the newlyweds through an avenue of sparklers. Congratulations Rhiannon & Toby!

Wedding Photography in Leeds: Kirsty & Kevin's wedding
My favourite weddings are those that are truely personal to the Bride & Groom and this was no exception. Kirsty & Kevin recently got married at Headingley Stadium, the home of Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire County Cricket Club. The love of sport held by both families made the Headingley Experience the perfect venue for their day.

Portrait Photography in Leeds: Kirsty & Kevin's pre-wedding portrait session
In the lead up to Kirsty & Kevin's wedding, I spent a little time getting to know them a little better. A pre-wedding portrait session is always a useful opportunity for my clients to get a little more comfortable in front of the lens and for me to establish which approaches work best for the couple.

Pre-wedding portrait photography in York: Selina & John
Later this year I'll be photographing Selina & John's wedding. I find a portrait session before the wedding is often a very useful experience and allows me to establish a better relationship with the couple. It was lovely to meet up with Selina & John, enjoy a coffee (I like coffee) and take a few images.

PR Photography at The University of York: John Minihan's exhibition of Beckett
The York Festival of Ideas opened last night with a major exhibition of the work of renowned Irish photographer, John Minihan at The University of York. It was a pleasure to photograph such a spectacular event and to have the chance to speak with such an accomplished professional, a humbling experience. Here are just a few images that caught my eye that I'd like to share with you.

Wedding Photography in York: Jenna & Andy's wedding at York Maze
Jenna & Andy recently got married at the beautiful York Maze. One of the things I really love at weddings are the personal touches, and Jenna & Andy's day was not short of them: From Jenna's hair and makeup being done by longstanding family friends to the cardboard cut out of Jenna's brother who was away on duty with the Navy (Ben made several cameo appearances throughout the day). Congratulations Jenna & Andy!

Cheshire Wedding Photography: Sarah & Andrew's wedding at Nunsmere Hall
Referrals and word of mouth are important parts of my business, which is why I was delighted when Lisa & Nathan recommended that I photograph Sarah & Andrew's recent wedding at the beautiful Nunsmere Hall Hotel in Cheshire. It was a fantastic day, bathed in sunshine with possibly some of my favourite speeches to date. Congratulations Sarah & Andrew!

Cheshire Wedding Photography: Rebecca & Paul's wedding
Rebecca and Paul got married at the beautiful Haslington Hall, not far from my home town of Congleton in Cheshire. The thing I love about weddings is that they're not only a great celebration of a couples love for each other, but also a happy re-union of family and friends, old and new - it was a great pleasure to document such a special day for so many people.

Live Music Photography in York: Blackbeards Tea Party
Live music and bands were the reason I originally got into photography years ago. I recently took the opportunity to photograph York based band Blackbeards Tea Party at The Duchess. I've worked alongside the band before at Lizzi & Albert's wedding last year, where they provided some awesome ceilidh music! Blackbeards were also supported by Bush & McCluskey.

University of York Graduation Portrait Photography: Fran's Graduation
Over the past couple of years I have provided Graduation Portrait Photography outside Heslington Hall. Former graduand and client Ricky booked me to photograph his girlfriend Fran and her family. I've had the pleasure of photographing Esther and Jonny, both individually and together, for their graduations. PR Photography for the University of York: Derwent Day 2010
As a former resident of Derwent College, it was a great honour to be commissioned by the Alumni Association to document this years "Derwent Day" where alumni of the college return for a re-union. This years Derwent Day held particular significance as a memorial garden was opened in memory of the late college provost Ron Weir. If you're on Facebook, you can tag yourself and other alumni here.

Shropshire Wedding Photography: Lizzi and Albert's wedding in Oswerstry
Despite being based in York, recommendations and word of mouth occasionally take me further afield. However I had the pleasure of meeting Lizzi and Albert in York after chatting at a Blackbeards Tea Party gig (a band which we have mutual connections with). I was honoured to travel over to Shropshire to document their day. After the ceremony and wedding breakfast at The Walls, guests travelled over to Lizzis Grandpa's Farm where I had the treat of photographing some wedding day football and cricket between the ever changing weather (a personal wedding first). In an interval of the Ceilidh lead by Blackbeards Tea Party I wrapped up my coverage by shooting some American open mic speeches (another personal first).

Wedding Photography in Bedfordshire; Kirsten & Jon's wedding
Kirsten got married to Jon at the Sharnbrook Hotel just outside Bedford this summer. This was my first coverage of the Bridal preparations for this year, they're always fun to shoot and I imagine they're quite an insight for the groom after the big day. Despite being based in Yorkshire, I occasionally travel further afield to photograph weddings.

Wedding Photography in York: Lisa & Nathan's wedding
Photographing someones wedding is always an honour, but it's so much greater when it's for someone you've known for a long time. I've known Lisa since primary school so I was delighted when I got the call to be her photographer for her wedding to Nathan. Their ceremony took place in the beautiful St Wilfreds Catholic Church before heading onto the Churchill Hotel for the evening reception.

Wedding Photography in York: Louise & Noel's wedding
I spent a sunny day in early July photographing Louise & Noel's wedding at York Register Office. Their day included a variety of Caledonian and Breton influences bourn out of Louise and Noel's respective heritage, along with a strong contingent of guests from each region. Given that so few guests had been to York before, Louise & Noel had the great idea of showing them some of the best bits. After the ceremony guests were led down to the riverside for drinks and canapés and a chance to mix for the first time. A stop in Museum Gardens for some group photos turned into a wonderfully relaxed afternoon in the park before a quick tour though some of Yorks streets on the way to the Merchant Adventurers Hall for the evening reception.

Wedding Photography near Middlesbrough: Michelle and Shaun's wedding
I recently had the honour of photographing Michelle and Shaun's church wedding in the village of Stainton, just south of Middlesbrough. They were fortunate with the weather, marrying on one of the hottest and sunniest days of the year. Michelle and Shaun decided to vary from tradition and held their speeches before the meal was served, a lovely sentiment that allowed those giving speeches to relax during their meal. If you're interested, or know someone who might be, you can read more about my wedding photography here.

Event Photography in York: York Tigers end of season dinner
As well as my work as a wedding and portrait photographer, I also photograph events, both corporate and private.
I was recently commissioned by York St Johns Rugby League team "York Tigers" to cover their end of season dinner. As well as the more natural moments that I enjoy capturing at these sorts of events, I also took a great deal of posed photographs that have become traditional for the club in previous years.
Here is a selection of my favourite images from the evening, the full selection can be found here.

Rehearsals of "The 24" Choir in Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall
I was invited by the University of York Press office to provide my services both as a camera operator and photographer to document the rehearsal of University choir "The 24".
The choir will be traveling out to China next month to perform and this session was the only opportunity before their trip to rehearse with the Chinese conductor that they will be working with on their trip. It was a highly enjoyable shoot for me (if not a little challenging for light) and a real pleasure to witness some really talented musicians at work.

Popcorn Comedy at The Tabernacle
I was recently asked by the organisers of Popcorn Comedy to photograph one of their nights. At least once a month comedians showcase their own short comedy films, songs and animations alongside sketches and stand-up performances.
The evening in The Tabernacle, Notting Hill, featured the talent and creative work of Holly Walsh, Robert Popper, Josie Long, Cassetteboy and Peter Serafinowicz to name a few. The sold out crowd included Little Britain's David Walliams, Spaced director Edgar Wright and Father Ted writer Graham Linehan.
It was a tremendous privilege to photograph the event and great fun watching what was on offer, I look forward to attending other Popcorn Comedy nights as a member of the audience in the future.

Emily and Jan's wedding in Cambridgeshire
Back in June I joined London & Cambridge wedding photographer Tom Catchesides to photograph Emily and Jan's wedding in Cambridgeshire.
I've attended a couple of Tom's seminars relating to wedding and portrait photography and was honored when he invited me to second shoot with him. It was an invaluable insight into how he achieves the coverage and quality of images at a wedding, something I hope to apply to my own wedding and portrait photography.
The images in this gallery were taken by me and are the copyright of Tom Catchesides.
